In this course, I would like to encourage you to be thinking about a major project and the possibility of submission to AERA and other conferences related to gaming and education such as GLS and DiGRA and how we might organize a panel for presentation and consider publishing a paper.

Major Assignments:

1. 6 Blogs – Wiki Jigsaw 10 points each -- 60 possible points
2. Platform game analysis presentation -- 100 possible points
3. Class presentation of lesson plan or arranged assignment -- 100 points
Total possible points -- 260 points

Jigsaw Blog/wiki

This assignment requires that you write about the assigned readings from class and connect them to the ideas that were explored and experienced in class. You will be expected to create your journal on your efolio site, or on a blog site of you choosing.
This system of taking notes will be done in a jigsaw format. Students will be grouped in fours. Each reading assignment will include three of the four students per group blogging about class, and the fourth member of the group will summarize and connect each group members writing on the wiki:
There will be a rotation so three members will have a learning role and blog, and the fourth will summarize and connect on the classwiki,

  • Description of each stage with examples using academic language related to the comprehension model from the reading by Dubbels. How do these elements from expository and story structures relate to building comprehension. Can you give an example?

Grading:
The student will be graded upon successful completion of all assignments on a percentage basis. One assignment may be resubmitted for a grade change. All written assignments will be expected to be composed using APA guidelines and have relations to the readings. An incomplete will only be given under extreme circumstances and must be completed within a six months.
